A Skull in Connemara, Constellations and a new Medea head Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse 2027 season

Martin McDonagh's A Skull in Connemara, Nick Payne's Constellations and a new Medea by Chris Bush are among the home-grown productions in the Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse's 2027 season, with general booking opening on 3 November.

The Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse has set out its programme for 2027. At its centre are four plays produced by the theatre itself under its Made in Liverpool banner, all of them staged at the Everyman on Hope Street: two modern classics, a play by a Liverpool writer, and a Greek tragedy relocated to the world of fly-on-the-wall television.

Regular donors already have priority access. Tickets go on general sale at 12pm on Tuesday 3 November.

A Skull in Connemara

Chris Sonnex directs Martin McDonagh's play from 20 February to 13 March 2027. It is set in rural County Galway, where Mick and Mairtin are taken on as gravediggers with an unusual task: not burying the dead but digging up the bones of villagers who died years ago, which unsettles more than the soil in a community thick with rumour. Creative Director Nathan Powell will host a post-show discussion on Wednesday 3 March.

Constellations

Nick Payne's play, first performed in 2012 and winner of the Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Play, runs from 17 April to 8 May 2027 under the direction of Yusra Warsama. It traces Marianne and Roland through the many versions their relationship might take, taking in beekeeping, barbecues, string theory and quantum mechanics on the way. Tickets are £16-£36.

Daffodils

The third Made in Liverpool title is by Liverpool writer Sean McLoughlin, with Nathan Powell directing, from 3-12 June 2027. Its central figure is English teacher Mr Stephens, whose Year 10 GCSE group gains Demi Lyons, a pupil the rest of the staff regard as difficult; the play weighs family, neglect and professional ambition. Tickets are £11-£26.

Medea

Olivier Award-winning writer Chris Bush brings Euripides into the present in a new version directed by Elin Schofield, running from 25 September to 16 October 2027. Here Medea is a former pop star whose career has stalled, whose husband Jason is leaving her for someone younger and whose children are being bullied, and who decides to let a documentary crew film it all. Tickets are £11-£36.

Young company and visiting productions

The theatre's young company, YEP, will stage Age is Revolting on 9-10 July 2027. Alongside the home-grown work, the building will host a run of touring productions:
