Giles Terera's Scrooge takes shape in rehearsal for the Old Vic's 10th anniversary A Christmas Carol

Giles Terera as Ebenezer Scrooge with members of the company in rehearsal for A Christmas Carol at the Old Vic. Photo by Manuel Harlan Giles Terera cowers in a faded red dressing gown while the company hold their lanterns up behind him. It is the first look inside the rehearsal room for the Old Vic's tenth anniversary A Christmas Carol, which opens on 10 November.

The picture leads a set of rehearsal photographs by Manuel Harlan, released by the Old Vic today as A Christmas Carol gets ready for its tenth anniversary season. Giles Terera plays Ebenezer Scrooge.

The camera moves around the room. Jack North and Gleanne Purcell-Brown, the production's Bob Cratchit and Mrs Cratchit, trade a grin over a cooking pot. Khalid Daley, who plays Young Ebenezer, sits on the floor holding up a small doll. Kirsty MacLaren, the company's Little Fan, is wrapped in a red and white shawl. Then the full company: arms raised mid-dance, and perched on boxes ringing handbells.

Terera turns up twice more in costume pieces, in a crumpled top hat beside a money box and ledger, and in a faded red coat with a small lantern in his hand.

Jack Thorne adapted Dickens's story and Matthew Warchus directs, with the audience on every side in the Old Vic's Season In The Round configuration. The company also includes Carly Bawden as Belle and Annie Wensak as the Ghost of Christmas Past, both named when the full line-up was announced. Our guide to the production has the rest of the details.

A Christmas Carol runs at the Old Vic from 10 November 2026 to 9 January 2027, with previews until 23 November.
