Edinburgh hit Pink Rabbit brings faith and OnlyFans to Soho Theatre

It collected five-star notices at this summer's Edinburgh Fringe. Next month it reaches London: Farah Ashraf's Pink Rabbit makes its London debut Upstairs at Soho Theatre.

Ashraf wrote the play and performs it alone. Her character, Amna, is an 18-year-old British Pakistani woman living two lives. At home she is the dutiful daughter her family expects. Online she is PersianBaby, running an OnlyFans account that her mother has no idea exists. Then a man contacts her on social media, offering to pay for webcam calls. The money gives Amna a freedom she has never had, and makes the balancing act with her conservative mother far harder.

Told through lyrical spoken word and direct address to the audience, the piece uses Amna's coming of age to ask how much room South Asian cultures leave for female desire, at any age, and how shame can be passed down from one generation to the next. It arrives with a Bestie Award and the Shedload-of-Future Fund 2026 to its name. The Scotsman gave it five stars and called Ashraf "one to watch", and The Stage, awarding four, described a "deeply poetic reflection on the contradiction between faith and sexual freedom".

"I first wrote Pink Rabbit as a five-minute scratch piece at drama school, out of frustration with how I felt South Asian & Muslim women were boxed in onstage," Ashraf said. "At its heart, the play is about the masks we wear to feel loved, desired and accepted, and that very human need to feel seen. It's about sex, but it's not sexy."

Ashraf's credits include Santi & Naz at Soho Theatre and The Railway Children for Bradford 2025. Soho Theatre Creative Associate Alessandro Babalola directs and is dramaturg; his record takes in Flesh and Bone, a Fringe First winner in 2017, and a 2019 Olivier Award. Daljinder Johal produces for Little Stitch Productions and Nazar Arts, with Aoife Smyth as associate director and Naomi Shanson as technical stage manager.

Pink Rabbit runs Upstairs at Soho Theatre, 21 Dean Street, from Tuesday 24 November to Saturday 12 December 2026, with press night on Wednesday 25 November at 6.45pm. Tickets start at £15; the show lasts 70 minutes and is recommended for ages 16 and over.
