Priestley's An Inspector Calls will open a three-week London run at Alexandra Palace Theatre on 3 September 2027, the first stop on a UK and Ireland tour that continues until May 2028.

PW Productions is sending Stephen Daldry's staging of An Inspector Calls back on the road for 2027-28, and the new tour will begin in London. The production plays Alexandra Palace Theatre from 3-25 September 2027, then visits 22 further venues in the UK and Ireland, with the last confirmed date in Leeds at the end of May 2028.

The tour follows the production's 2024-25 visit around the country. Further venues will be added, and the casting has yet to be announced.

Daldry first directed the play at the National Theatre in 1992. In the years since, his production has won 19 major awards, including four Tony Awards and three Olivier Awards, and has been seen by more than six million people worldwide. The creative team remains Ian MacNeil (design), Rick Fisher (lighting) and Stephen Warbeck (music), with Charlotte Peters as associate director.

Priestley sets the play in the prosperous household of the Birling family, whose evening of celebration is broken off by the unannounced arrival of Inspector Goole. He has come about the death of a young woman, and as he questions each of them in turn, the family discover how closely their own lives are bound up with hers.

Daldry said: "When we first created An Inspector Calls at the National Theatre in 1992, none of us could have imagined that we would still be touring the production 35 years later. It's extraordinary that Priestley's play continues to resonate so strongly with audiences, and perhaps more importantly, that its message remains as relevant today as ever. I'm delighted that a new generation of audiences will have the opportunity to experience it on this latest tour."

His other stage work includes Billy Elliot the Musical, which begins a UK tour with a London revival in November 2026, and Stranger Things: The First Shadow, which opened at the Phoenix Theatre in December 2023. He won the 2019 Olivier Award for Best Director for The Inheritance.
