Million Dollar Quartet is the story of the night four rock 'n' roll pioneers ended up in the same Memphis recording studio.
On 4 December 1956, chance brought Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley together at Sun Records. The musical imagines the jam session that followed, with producer Sam Phillips, the man who first recorded all four, trying to hold his roster together as egos collide, promises are broken and each performer weighs up his future. The score is drawn from the songs of the era, among them Blue Suede Shoes, Fever, Walk the Line and Hound Dog, played live by the cast.
The musical opened on Broadway in 2010 and received three Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, winning Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Levi Kreis as Jerry Lee Lewis. It made its West End premiere at the Noël Coward Theatre in 2011 and returned to London during a UK tour in 2016 and 2017. This staging began at the Barn Theatre in Cirencester, where The Stage wrote: "Under O'Boyle's assured direction, we get the real people, rather than the legends that they became."
The production is directed by Jonathan O'Boyle, with choreography by Joanna Goodwin, set and costume design by Libby Watson, lighting design by Alex Musgrave, sound design by Nick Lodge and musical supervision by Lee Freeman. The book is by Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux.
Darren Day reprises the role of Sam Phillips, which he played at the Barn Theatre. Full casting for the London season is to be announced.
