One hundred stalls seats will be sold at £20 each for the first preview of Rent on Saturday 26 September, over the counter at the Tom Stoppard Theatre from midday. Front-row seats are £30 at every other preview.
The West End production of Rent has set out how it will sell day seats through previews, and the first performance carries the cheapest of them. One hundred tickets in the stalls go for £20 each on Saturday 26 September, sold in person at the Tom Stoppard Theatre box office from 12.00 noon that day, limited to two per person.
The figure is a deliberate nod to the rush policy the musical ran on Broadway, where $20 bought a front-row seat on a first-come, first-served basis.
For the rest of the preview period, up to and including 7 October, the front row is priced at £30. Those seats are sold in person too, from 10.30am on the day of the performance, and the production is running the scheme to mark 30 years since the show first opened in New York.
Neither offer is available online or by telephone: both are counter sales at the theatre, so the queue is the only route to them.
From Friday 9 October, the day after opening night, day seats move to a digital lottery. How that will work has not been set out yet, and further details are to follow.
Gaten Matarazzo leads the company as Mark, with Travis Ross as Roger, Alexa Lopez as Mimi, Billy Nevers as Collins, Lazy Violet as Maureen, Danielle Fiamanya as Joanne, Jeevan Braich as Angel and Joaquin Pedro Valdes as Benny. The company also includes Baylie Carson, Laura Delany, Ryesha Higgs, Montoya Holloway-Johnson, Rhys Hopkins, Shem Omari James, Hannah Macpherson, TJ Matara-Holloway, Ryan Nixon, Leah Vassell, James Wilkinson-Jones and Kevin Yates.
Jonathan Larson wrote the book, music and lyrics. Luke Sheppard directs, with choreography by Tom Jackson Greaves, set design by David Woodhead, costume design by Gabriella Slade, lighting design by Howard Hudson and sound design by Paul Gatehouse. The revival is produced by Chris Harper Productions, Sonia Friedman Productions, Winkler & Smalberg and Julie Larson, in association with the Hope Mill Theatre, where Sheppard directed an earlier staging of the musical.
