Avenue Q has released a clip of its finale, For Now, with two months left before the puppets leave the Shaftesbury Theatre on 3 January 2027.
The last number in Avenue Q is a shrug set to music. For Now tells everyone on the street, puppet and human alike, that the dead-end job, the empty bank account and the broken heart are all temporary. With the West End run counting down, the production has turned that line on itself.
A 78-second clip of the finale went up on the show’s official Instagram account just before midday on Tuesday 3 November, pitched under the show’s own tagline that Avenue Q is only “For Now”. It is a vertical cut, made for phones, and it lands with roughly two months of performances left at the Shaftesbury Theatre.
If the clip does not load, watch it on Instagram.
The musical, written by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx (music and lyrics) with a book by Jeff Whitty, is back in London for its 20th anniversary, with the original Broadway puppets designed by Rick Lyon making the trip. The limited season was later extended into the new year, and the closing date was set in September, when former West End cast members returned for a one-off anniversary performance.
The curtain comes down for the last time on Sunday 3 January 2027. The building changes its name soon after, becoming the Judi Dench Theatre in February 2027.
Avenue Q is booking at the Shaftesbury Theatre until 3 January 2027.
