Daniel Casey fronts a new film for the 2027 Midsomer Murders stage tour

Daniel Casey as Inspector Tom Barnaby in Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger’s Drift. Photo by Manuel Harlan Daniel Casey is the face of a new 34-second film for Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger’s Drift, released six months before the thriller sets off on its second UK and Ireland tour in April 2027.

A painted sign reading “Midsomer County” hangs above a scale model of the set, small white figures posed around a kitchen counter. It is one of the shots in the new film for the stage version of Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger’s Drift, which puts Casey front and centre once more as Inspector Tom Barnaby.

The tour starts at The Alexandra, Birmingham on 23-24 April 2027 and finishes at Newcastle Theatre Royal on 27-31 July, taking in 14 venues across England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. We covered the casting and the full list of tour dates when they were announced on 8 October. The rest of the company has yet to be named.

The film is short and subtitled, cut both for widescreen and as a vertical version for phones. Here is the widescreen edit:

The first tour, in 2025/26, broke box office records according to its producers, Nicholson Green Productions and Colin Ingram Ltd. The return lands in the 40th anniversary year of Caroline Graham’s novel, which Guy Unsworth has adapted and directs. Casey knows the material well: before taking on Barnaby for the stage, he spent more than a decade as Sergeant Troy in the ITV series.
