Picket-line banners, a glowing disco floor and a run of five-star quotes: the new trailer for Pride the Musical arrives less than three weeks before the show begins performances at the Bridge Theatre.
The first shot is a single word, SHAME, built in giant block letters with the cast lined up in front of it. From there the 68-second trailer for Pride the Musical cuts fast: a crowd gathered behind a "They Shall Not Starve" banner, a "Better Blatant Than Latent" sign held high, a dancer in an orange boiler suit taking the floor, and a dance number lit in pink and blue. The footage comes from the production's earlier seasons, and the final card names its next stop, the Bridge Theatre.
Between the pictures, the edit leans on the reviews from those sold-out, record-breaking runs at Cardiff's Sherman Theatre and the National Theatre. The i's verdict, "Five stars is nowhere near enough", gets a card of its own, and so does the Daily Mail's "Stunning - blows the roof off".
If the player does not load, the trailer is also on YouTube.
The story is true, and it reached cinemas first as the award-winning 2014 film. In 1984, at the height of the miners' strike, a group of friends in London set up Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) and went on to help a small village in South Wales. The stage version is directed by Matthew Warchus, whose Matilda the Musical is now marking 15 years in the West End, and it reunites him with Stephen Beresford, whose new film Elsinore is drawing strong notices internationally.
The original score is by Christopher Nightingale, known for A Christmas Carol, alongside Josh Cohen and DJ Walde, the team behind Sylvia. Its songs draw on protest anthems, pop, rock, disco and the Welsh choral tradition. P&P Productions presents the musical in association with the National Theatre, Pathé, Calamity Films and David Binder Productions.
The London company was confirmed earlier this month. Performances begin on Thursday 12 November, with the opening night on 23 November 2026. The show plays Monday to Saturday at 7.30pm, with matinees on Thursdays and Saturdays at 2.30pm. Tickets start at £30, and the age guidance is 12+.
Three access performances are scheduled, all at 7.30pm: a captioned performance on Wednesday 3 February, an audio-described performance on Wednesday 10 February and a signed performance on Wednesday 24 February 2027.
Pride the Musical is booking now at the Bridge Theatre.
