Sylvia description
Roll back time to meet Sylvia Pankhurst: influencer, Suffragette, and hero.
It's Sylvia the musical, an Olivier Award-nominated show about Sylvia Pankhurst, the feminist activist whose courage and determination saw British females given the vote for the first time in history. Once the property of their husbands with no power to call their own, the Suffragettes' action changed life for millions of women. This musical version of her story delighted audiences at The Old Vic Theatre in 2023, now it's back in town.
Your venue is the Royal Albert Hall, the place where more than twenty Suffragette rallies and countless speeches once took place in support of voting rights for women.
The show tells the remarkable story of Emmeline Pankhurst's daughter and her pivotal role in the Suffragette movement. Sylvia spent her life navigating loyalty, love, and revolution, a life richly explored in an electrifying production about her life and times, accompanied by a score of brilliant hip hop, funk, and soul tunes. The women's spirit, courage, and determination shine through to make this absorbing true story even more special, a slice of history that changed an entire nation for the better.
The choreographer and storyteller Kate Prince (ZooNation) is at the heart of it all. West End royalty Beverley Knight (Sister Act, The Drifters Girl, Memphis The Musical) reprises her Olivier Award-winning role as Emmeline Pankhurst. Sharon Rose (Hamilton, Motown, Beautiful: The Carol King Musical) plays Sylvia herself.
