Pride The Musical description

Brand new musical Pride tells an unforgettable true story about miners, gays, and lesbians.

Pride takes place in the summer of 1984 when Thatcher shut down Britain's mining industry, leaving 20,000 miners unemployed and local communities broke. This delicious new musical celebrates something beautiful that emerged from the chaos, an inspiring true story stuffed with original songs inspired by protest anthems, pop, rock, disco, and Welsh choirs.

Miners across the country are on strike, their families are going hungry, and 24-year-old activist Mark Ashton wants to help. He persuades a random group of gay men and lesbians to support the miners. Their group, Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners, soon finds itself immersed in the lives of the people in the small South Wales pit village.

Expect a remarkable exploration of what happens when communities are threatened: we don't just put up with it, we unite, no matter how different we are. Described as funny, fierce, and full of heart, Pride will resonate with those of us who were around at the time, and thrill newcomers to the trouble and strife on our streets more than forty years ago.

We have the writer and director of the original movie, Stephen Beresford and Matthew Warchus, plus composers Christopher Nightingale, Josh Cohen and DJ Walde on the creative team. There's Set and Costume Designer Bunny Christie, Choreographer Lizzi Gee, Lighting Designer Hugh Vanstone and Sound Designer Bobby Aitken on board. The Music Supervisor is Tom Kelly, with Music Director Jo Cichonska and Casting Director David Grindrod CDG.
