The Young Vic has released the first production images for the world premiere of Thelma & Louise, the new musical from Callie Khouri and Neko Case.
The Young Vic has released the first production images for Thelma & Louise, the world premiere musical adaptation of Callie Khouri’s Oscar-winning film. It runs in the Main House until Saturday 24 October 2026, with press night on Wednesday 16 September.
Khouri has adapted her own screenplay, with music and lyrics by the Grammy-nominated Neko Case and direction by Trip Cullman, whose Becky Shaw and Choir Boy he also staged. More than thirty years after the film reached cinemas, the company make the case that its politics have not dated.
Amy Lennox, an Olivier nominee for Kinky Boots and lately seen in Cabaret, plays Thelma. Rachel Tucker, also Olivier-nominated and known for Wicked and Come From Away, plays Louise. They are joined by Trevor Dion Nicholas as Hal, Jordan Luke Gage as JD, Samuel Edwards as Darryl, Alex Gibson-Giorgio as Jimmy, Letitia Hector as Sarah, Tamlyn Henderson as Harlan and Max, and Jack Butterworth as Trooper and Singer. The ensemble is Suzie McAdam, Eleanor Walsh, Alex Given, Kamilla Fernandes, Rushand Chambers and Joshua Dever.
On a whim, Louise invites her best friend Thelma away for a weekend. An encounter with a stranger at a roadside honkytonk goes badly wrong, and a lifelong friendship hardens into something dangerous and unbreakable. What follows is a last-chance run in a world where the odds are stacked against them.
Choreography is by Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber, with scenography by Christine Jones and Brett J. Banakis, costume design by Ryan Dawson Laight, lighting by Natasha Chivers and sound by Gareth Owen. Kimberly Grigsby is musical supervisor, John Clancy orchestrates and arranges, Ed Bussey is musical director and Carole Hancock designs wigs, hair and make-up, with additional music by Carl Newman, Paul Rigby and Zoe Sarnak. Stuart Burt CDG CSA is casting director.
It is a Young Vic co-production with Sonia Friedman Productions, Blue Spruce Productions, Ley Line Entertainment and Callie Khouri, together with Mandy Greenfield and in association with MGM ON STAGE.
Performances are Monday to Saturday at 7.30pm, with matinees on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 2.30pm. Access performances run throughout: BSL on Wednesday 30 September and Friday 9 October, captioned on Saturday 3 October and Thursday 8 October, audio described on Tuesday 29 September and Saturday 10 October, and relaxed performances on Saturday 3 October and Wednesday 7 October.
