Our Show of the Month for October is Evita, and it's playing at a very special theatre, the refurbished Dominion, legendary venue of We Will Rock You for the past 12 years.
2014 has been a magical year for Bill Kenwright and Bob Tomsons' touring production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd-Webber's classic musical. Now it's playing a strictly limited run, on stage until 1st November, revealing Evita's early life, her dramatic rise to power, her charity work, love of the common people and eventual tragic death.
Winner of more than 20 awards over the years, Evita is one of Lloyd Webber and Rices' finest works with its sweeping show tunes and unforgettable characters. The people's heroine Eva Peron is played by the marvellous Madalena Alberto, with Wet Wet Wet's Marti Pellow as the narrator Che and Ben Forster as Agustin Magaldi, the infamous tango and milonga singer, AKA The sentimental voice of Buenos Aires.
The 1996 movie starring Madonna and Antonio Banderas was a huge hit, as was the musical's 2006 London revival and 2012 Broadway revival.
