Lashana Lynch takes the lead in dissent, the new play written and directed by debbie tucker green, which has its world premiere in the Main House at the Young Vic from 5 March - 24 April 2027, with press night on 11 March 2027. Lynch’s screen credits include The Day of the Jackal.
green is one of the most distinctive voices writing for the British stage, an Olivier and BAFTA Award winner whose earlier plays include ear for eye, a profoundly affectionate, passionate devotion to someone (-noun), random and generations.
The production is described as explosive, and the text the Young Vic has released sets out a world of state-sponsored air conditioning and free cigarettes, where the instruction is to work hard, go home, chill out, repeat – comply, and question nothing.
green is joined by set and costume designer Ruby Law (RULA), lighting designer Paule Constable, sound designer Christopher Shutt and movement director Vicki Manderson. The production is a Young Vic production in association with Barbara Broccoli.
Casting was announced alongside four new productions completing the theatre’s 2026/27 season, and further casting for Eurotrash, where Deanna H. Choi and Glyn Pritchard join Ben Whishaw and Kathryn Hunter.
Booking opens at 11am on 1 October for Patrons+, with Good Friends from 5 October and Friends from 6 October, and general booking from 11am on 7 October. dissent runs in the Main House at the Young Vic from 5 March - 24 April 2027.
