dissent description

Debbie Tucker Green's explosive Dissent premieres at the Young Vic Theatre.

How dark are human instincts? As it turns out they're very dark indeed. In this dystopian world you slot into the groove. You work hard, go home, chill out. Then you do it all again, and again, and again, until you die. The deal is sweetened with free cigarettes and air conditioning. What you don't know, you don't need to know, what you don't need to know can't hurt you. Stick to the system and all with be well. Question anything and you're in trouble.

Dissent comes from the brilliant Debbie Tucker Green, a unique voice in modern British theatre. A highly respected Olivier and BAFTA winner, she has an enormous back catalogue of critically acclaimed work behind her including 2003's Born Bad, winner of the 2004 Olivier for Most Promising Newcomer. Dirty Butterfly, Stoning Mary, Trade, Random, Ear for Eye, Nut, Hang and Lament all celebrate her innovative, politically engaged style. The Lighting Designer is Paule Constable and the Sound Designer is Christopher Shutt.

A play for our dystopian times, Tucker Green directs this explosive new work exploring humanity's ugliest side through themes of power, control, and the way we can easily sleepwalk our way into trouble by ignoring society's problems.

A play to make you think, think twice, and re-evaluate the world we live in, buy Dissent tickets for a wonderfully disturbing ride.
