Eurotrash description
Kathryn Hunter and Ben Whishaw star in Eurotrash, adapted from Christian Kracht's novel.
Eurotrash is a brand new Young Vic and Red Peter co-production, adapted for the stage by Colin Teevan. Teevan's impressive back catalogue includes Das Boot for Sky, Silk for the BBC, and Vera for ITV. His Tv shows Rebellion (Netflix and RTE) and Charlie (RTE) both won multiple IFTAs including Best Actor for Aidan Gillen, who played Charlie Haughey in Charlie.
The story is about a novelist suffering from writer's block, whose ancient mum summons him to Zurich. She might be pickled in vodka and held together by pills but she isn't the stupid, heartless old woman he believes her to be. Together they embark on an adventure to give away her ill-gotten fortune earned by investing in arms and dairy products. Inspired by the idea of coming to terms with Europe's dark history as well as their own past, they stick the cash in a plastic bag and set off on a crazy-chaotic road trip through Switzerland. Will they achieve their mission to give every penny of the money away, even if it means squandering it?
The stars of the show are the indomitable Kathryn Hunter (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Black Doves, Andor, The Tragedy of Macbeth) and the equally talented Ben Whishaw (Hamlet, Skyfall, This is Going to Hurt). The director is Walter Meierjohann and the Set and Costume Designer is Lizzie Clachan.
Eurotrash tickets whisk you into a dark comedy travelogue play whose touching search for redemption and human connection will inspire you.
