Full casting is in for the first UK tour of Back to the Future The Musical, which opens at the Bristol Hippodrome on 8 October 2026 - and Roger Bart has extended his run as Doc Brown into a fourth city.
Roger Bart has extended his run as Doc Brown in the first UK tour of Back to the Future The Musical, and will now play the Liverpool Empire from 12 January to 6 February 2027 on top of the previously announced Bristol and Edinburgh dates. The tour opens at the Bristol Hippodrome on Thursday 8 October 2026, and the full company has been announced today.
Brian Conley, who played the part at the Adelphi Theatre, takes over as Doc Brown at Milton Keynes Theatre in February 2027. Casting for the role beyond that is still to come. Axel Duffy, who originated Marty McFly in the Australian production opposite Bart, plays Marty on tour.
They are joined by James Oliver as George McFly, Danielle Rose as Lorraine Baines, Brandon Lee Sears as Goldie Wilson and Marvin Berry, Toby Shellard as Biff Tannen, Tash Bacarese-Hamilton as Jennifer Parker, Rhys Owen as Strickland, Katrina Stenning as Linda McFly and Blake Jordan as Dave McFly. Arthur Janes plays Marty McFly at selected performances.
Completing the company are Chloe Bell, Nicole Carlisle, Tilly Ducker, Rebecca French, Tia Gyngell, Kai Harris, Katie Hutton, Keir Hylands, Arthur Janes, Stephen Lewis-Johnston, Zachary Miller, George Olney, Trézel Sergeant and Lashane Williams.
Bart originated Doc Brown in Manchester, the West End, on Broadway and in Sydney, and was nominated for a Tony for the Broadway run; his other credits include originating Carmen Ghia in The Producers. Conley's West End work includes Hairspray and, on tour, Barnum and Oliver!. Duffy's credits include the Australian company of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
The show closed in the West End on 12 April 2026 after five years at the Adelphi, where it was seen by more than 2.3 million people. Productions are running in Japan and Germany and on Royal Caribbean ships, with a French staging to come, and the show has now been seen by over 5.5 million people worldwide.
The musical has a book by Bob Gale, who co-created the films with Robert Zemeckis, and music and lyrics by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard, alongside The Power of Love and Johnny B. Goode from the film. It is directed by John Rando, with set and costume design by Tim Hatley, choreography by Chris Bailey, illusions by Chris Fisher, lighting by Tim Lutkin and Hugh Vanstone, sound by Gareth Owen and video by Finn Ross. Musical supervision and arrangements are by Nick Finlow, with orchestrations by Ethan Popp and Bryan Crook and dance arrangements by David Chase. The lead producer is Colin Ingram.
