Kathryn Hunter and Ben Whishaw in rehearsal as Eurotrash adds two Young Vic dates

Kathryn Hunter and Ben Whishaw in rehearsal for Eurotrash at the Young Vic. Photo by Ellie Kurttz The Young Vic has found room for two more performances of Eurotrash, its sold-out staging of Christian Kracht's novel, and has released the first photographs of Kathryn Hunter and Ben Whishaw at work in the rehearsal room.

A run that had sold out before its first preview now has a little more capacity: the Young Vic has put two extra performances of Eurotrash on sale, on Monday 28 December 2026 and Saturday 2 January 2027, and has paired the announcement with a set of rehearsal pictures by photographer Ellie Kurttz showing Kathryn Hunter and Ben Whishaw preparing the roles of Mother and Christian.

Neither of the added dates is quite an ordinary night, since both give the understudies their turn. On 28 December Annabel Arden plays Mother and Chris Jared plays The Janitor; on 2 January it is Jared who takes over as Christian, the part Whishaw plays for the rest of the run.

The production, which the Young Vic co-produces with Red Peter, is Colin Teevan's new stage version of Christian Kracht's internationally best-selling novel, directed by Walter Meierjohann. Its premise is a family reckoning on the move: a novelist who cannot write is called back to Zurich by his elderly mother, whose life is being held together, barely, by vodka, pills and Ferragamo jumpers, and the two set out across a snowbound Switzerland with her fortune, earned from arms investments and dairy products, carried in a plastic bag. The plan is to give the money away, and in doing so to face the history the family shares with Europe. The theatre bills the result as a darkly comic travelogue that is also a search for redemption and connection, and our guide to the production has the fuller background.

Deanna H. Choi and Glyn Pritchard complete the company, with Arden and Jared covering as understudies. Choi is also the show's composer and shares the sound design with Charlie Smith, while Lizzie Clachan designs the set and costumes, Richard Howell the lighting, and Kim Kasim the wigs, hair and make-up; Jozef Houben is the movement director.

The photographs, taken in the rehearsal room ahead of the opening, set Hunter in a fur coat and neck scarf beside Whishaw in a patterned knitted jumper, with a walking frame, a suitcase and a plastic carrier bag already among the props, and also catch Meierjohann at work with the two leads.

Eurotrash runs in the Young Vic's Main House from Friday 13 November 2026 to Saturday 9 January 2027, with press night on Thursday 19 November. Evening performances begin at 7.30pm, Monday to Saturday. The run includes BSL-interpreted performances on Friday 4 and Friday 11 December; captioned performances on Saturday 5 December at 2.30pm and Thursday 10 December; audio-described performances on Tuesday 1 December, with a touch tour at 6pm, and Saturday 12 December at 2.30pm, with a touch tour at 1pm; and relaxed performances on Saturday 5 December at 2.30pm and Wednesday 9 December.

Tickets for Eurotrash, including the two added performances, are on sale now.
