English National Opera has released the first rehearsal photographs for Iphigénie en Tauride, with Christine Rice and Jacques Imbrailo as the sister and brother at its heart. The new production opens at the London Coliseum on 6 November.
Helen Murray took the pictures in the rehearsal room ahead of the opening of Iphigénie en Tauride. They catch Rice and Imbrailo, as Iphigénie and her brother Oreste, at work on their scenes together, with the priestesses and the wider company around them.
This is the first time ENO has staged Gluck’s opera. Lyndsey Turner directs, and Baroque specialist David Bates makes his company debut conducting the Orchestra of ENO. It is sung in the original French, to a libretto by Nicolas-François Guillard, with English surtitles.
Rice takes the title role and Imbrailo plays Oreste. Nick Pritchard is Pylade and Morgan Pearse is Thoas. Olivia Rose Tringham and Amy Holyland sing the First and Second Priestess, Sarah Gilford is A Greek Woman and Robert Winslade Anderson is the Scythian Priest, alongside the Chorus of ENO. Soutra Gilmour designs the set and costumes, with lighting by Tim Mitchell.
We covered the casting announcement earlier this month, and our guide to the production sets out the story.
Tickets start at £25. Under-21s go free at every level of the house, and 21-35-year-olds can book discounted seats.
There are only four performances. Iphigénie en Tauride is booking now at the London Coliseum from 6-14 November 2026.
