Charlotte d’Amboise joins Jesse Tyler Ferguson in Tru at the Menier Chocolate Factory

Jesse Tyler Ferguson as Truman Capote in Tru Charlotte d’Amboise joins Jesse Tyler Ferguson in Tru, Jay Presson Allen’s Truman Capote play, which begins previews at the Menier Chocolate Factory on Saturday 19 September and opens on 27 September.

Charlotte d’Amboise joins Jesse Tyler Ferguson in Tru at the Menier Chocolate Factory, completing the two-hander cast. Previews begin on Saturday 19 September, the production opens on 27 September and the run ends on Saturday 14 November.

d’Amboise made her Broadway debut in Cats and has twice been nominated for a Tony, for the revival of A Chorus Line and for Jerome Robbins’ Broadway. She played Roxie Hart in Chicago on Broadway, and her other credits there include Company, Contact and Song and Dance.

Ferguson plays Truman Capote. He played King Herod in Jesus Christ Superstar, which closed its summer season at the London Palladium on 5 September and reopens at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on 16 October. He made his West End debut in Stephen Sondheim’s final work, Here We Are, at the National Theatre. He won a Tony for the revival of Take Me Out.

Rob Ashford directs. The production follows a New York run earlier this year, and Ashford, Ferguson and d’Amboise developed it in March at the House of the Redeemer’s Library in New York.

Written by Jay Presson Allen and first staged in 1989, Tru is drawn entirely from Capote’s own words. It finds him alone in his New York apartment in December 1975, after the publication that cost him the friendship of the society circle he had spent years cultivating.

The set is designed by Paul Farnsworth, with costumes by Jaimal Odedra, lighting by Jamie Platt and sound by Adam Cork. Kate Tydman is associate director.

The Menier’s production of The Producers completes its West End run at the Garrick Theatre on 19 September, the day Tru begins previews in Southwark.

Tru runs at the Menier Chocolate Factory from 19 September to 14 November 2026.
