The Housemaid stage play sets its first UK tour dates, opening at Richmond Theatre

Key artwork for The Housemaid, the stage play based on Freida McFadden's novel and the Lionsgate film A stage version of The Housemaid, adapted from Freida McFadden's bestselling thriller and the Lionsgate film, will open its first UK tour at London's Richmond Theatre on 14 September 2027, with most dates going on sale on 6 November 2026.

The world premiere of The Housemaid takes place at Richmond Theatre, where the play runs for a week from 14 September 2027 before heading out on a tour of 18 venues so far, stretching into April 2028.

Bekah Brunstetter is writing the adaptation. She was Tony Award-nominated for the book of the Broadway musical The Notebook, and her television work includes This Is Us, American Gods and Maid, which won her a Writers Guild of America Award. Matthew Dunster directs: a Tony and Olivier Award nominee, his stage credits include 2:22 A Ghost Story and The Hunger Games: On Stage.

The production comes from Melting Pot, the company led by Simon Friend and Hanna Osmolska, in association with Lionsgate.

McFadden published the novel in 2022, and it became a word-of-mouth sensation that has since grown into a trilogy with The Housemaid's Secret and The Housemaid Is Watching. Paul Feig's film version reached cinemas in December 2025 and grossed more than $400 million worldwide. A film of The Housemaid's Secret is now in production and due for release on 17 December 2027, three months after the play opens.

"With the stage play debuting next year and our sequel film in production, the momentum behind The Housemaid franchise continues to grow," said Jenefer Brown, Lionsgate's President, Global Products & Experiences. "We're thrilled to work with Simon, Hanna, Bekah and Matthew to bring this story to the stage in an entirely new way, giving audiences the chance to experience its suspense, twists and turns live."

Simon Friend added: "Bekah's adaptation of The Housemaid is exactly what we'd hoped for - a fresh and uniquely theatrical take on this wildly popular story, and made with Matthew Dunster's vision, it will certainly bring a thrilling new dimension to the franchise."
