OperaUpClose will present Gianni Schicchi (or Where There's A Will) at the Park Theatre from 14 April - 8 May 2027. Press night is Tuesday 20 April. The run is a residency in the Park200 space.
The residency opens a new opera strand in the Park200 programme. It is also a substantial London return for OperaUpClose.
The piece is a reworking of Puccini's family farce. Hannah Kumari rewrote it. Vahan Salorian re-orchestrated it. It runs 65 minutes.
The new version is a comic murder mystery. It is set in Harmouth, a fictional seaside town. A wealthy second-home owner is hosting a last party of the season. The local fixer, Gianni Schicchi, then joins in, and events start to come apart. The company cites The White Lotus and Knives Out as influences. Its satirical targets are wealth and entitlement.
PJ Harris directs. Harris won a Sky Arts Award in 2025. Anna Yates designs. The production was originally co-produced with Mayflower Southampton. OperaUpClose presents it in association with Park Theatre.
The residency is part of Park Theatre's 2027 season.
