First look at the new Mamma Mia! cast at the Novello Theatre

The cast of Mamma Mia! at the Novello Theatre. Photo by Brinkhoff & Mögenburg The first production photographs of the new Mamma Mia! company are out, ten days after Sara Poyzer, Ellie Gilbert-Grey and the rest of the cast took over the West End run at the Novello Theatre.

Strings of lights hang over a whitewashed island courtyard, and the whole company kicks out in a line along the front of the stage. That is the opening frame of a fresh set of production pictures from Mamma Mia!, the first to show the cast that took over at the Novello Theatre on 12 October 2026.

Most of the set belongs to Ellie Gilbert-Grey, the new Sophie. One shot catches her on the floor in a clinch with Kyle Cox as Sky; another has her squaring up to Rakesh Boury as Bill Austin. She is also at the centre of two of the big company numbers, once in white under a wash of green light and once in a crowd of pink and red dresses. Charlie Garton, the new Pepper, is caught in mid-air in a full split above the rest of the company.

Sara Poyzer leads as Donna, with Emma Odell taking the role at certain performances. Vivien Carter and Laura Medforth play her old bandmates Tanya and Rosie, and the three possible fathers are Richard Standing as Sam, Daniel Crowder as Harry and Boury as Bill. Natorii Illidge is Ali, Foxy Valentine is Lisa and Edward Turner is Eddie.

The ensemble is made up of Margaret Atta, Dan Burstow, Will Forgave, Erin-Sophie Halliday, Nicole Ingram, Harry Jack, Imogen Malone, David Nairne, Andy Rees, Julie Repérant, Beth Shaw, Matt Trevorrow, Matthew Barrow, Lawrence Guntert, Laura Jayne-Hardie, Deena Kapadia, Benjamin Kempton, Tom Parsons, Emily Squibb and Ria Turner.

The show reached its 27th birthday in the West End on 6 April 2026, having first opened in London in 1999, and only two musicals have run longer there. The score is by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, the book by Catherine Johnson. Phyllida Lloyd directs, with choreography by Anthony Van Laast, designs by Mark Thompson, lighting by Howard Harrison, sound by Andrew Bruce and Bobby Aitken, and musical supervision, additional material and arrangements by Martin Koch. Judy Craymer, Richard East and Ulvaeus produce for Littlestar, in association with Universal Music Group.

The new line-up was announced in September together with a longer booking period, and the casting story sets out where each of the principals was last seen.

Mamma Mia! is booking at the Novello Theatre until 2 October 2027.
