The company of the new revival of Little Shop of Horrors appears together on film for the first time in a specially recorded megamix, released today ahead of runs at Manchester's Hope Mill Theatre and the Liverpool Playhouse.
The cast of the new revival of Little Shop of Horrors has been filmed together for the first time in a megamix released today, put together specially for the production by Thomas Hopkins and SAMS Entertainment.
The film traces the production from its announcement in February through a year of events and appearances, and ends with studio footage of the full company recording the new arrangement. It folds several of the score's best-known numbers into a single mashup, among them Little Shop of Horrors, Dentist!, Somewhere That's Green and Don't Feed the Plants.
Maisie Smith, of EastEnders and a finalist on Strictly Come Dancing, plays Audrey for the Manchester run in her first musical theatre role, with Emmerdale's Jessie Elland taking over the part in Liverpool. They are joined by Michael Starke, Ben Yates and Jed Berry, alongside Rio Maye, Gabrielle Davina Smith and Psalsms-Nissi Myers-Reid, with an ensemble of Ella Howlett, Joseph Peacock, Nathen Scott and Kai Cameron Jay.
Demand is already running ahead of the opening: every September performance at the Hope Mill Theatre has sold out, and tickets for the Liverpool Playhouse are selling fast.
The production is directed and choreographed by Carrie-Anne Ingrouille, the Tony and Olivier nominated choreographer of SIX, with set and costume design by Morgan Large, whose work includes Sister Act and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the London Palladium. Paul Schofield is musical supervisor and Ben Barrow musical director, with lighting by Rory Beaton, sound by Kelsh Buckman-Drage and casting by Rob Kelly. The megamix was filmed by Adam Nightingale.
Audrey II is realised through four specially commissioned puppets by the creature maker Robert Allsopp, whose credits run from the Wicked films to some of the more elaborate inhabitants of Doctor Who.
With a book and lyrics by Howard Ashman and music by Alan Menken, based on the Roger Corman film from a screenplay by Charles Griffith, the show plays the Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester from 25 September to 29 November 2026, with press night on 7 October and a Halloween gala on 31 October in aid of the theatre's Community Hub Campaign. It then runs at the Liverpool Playhouse from 3 December to 9 January 2027, with press night on 10 December.
