The Tony-winning Buena Vista Social Club is coming to London. Its producers have confirmed a West End premiere in 2027, with the Broadway production set to close on 17 January.
A London run had looked likely ever since Buena Vista Social Club started collecting awards in New York. Today it became official: the musical will make its West End debut in 2027. No theatre or dates have been named yet.
The confirmation came as part of a wider announcement from the producers. The Broadway production at the Schoenfeld Theatre will give its final performance on 17 January 2027, having played 767 performances across 96 weeks since it opened in March 2025.
This weekend the show is also playing on four stages at once: on Broadway, on its US national tour at the Music Hall at Fair Park in Dallas, at the Antonio Paoli Festival Hall of the Centro de Bellas Artes in Puerto Rico, and at the Teatro de los Insurgentes in Mexico City.
The musical is inspired by the true story behind the 1997 Grammy-winning album that carried the sound of Havana around the world, following the Cuban musicians who made it. It was the first Broadway musical with a score sung entirely in Spanish, and its live Afro-Cuban band sits at the heart of the evening.
It won five Tony Awards, among them Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical for Natalie Venetia Belcon, Best Choreography for Patricia Delgado and Justin Peck, Best Orchestrations for Marco Paguia and Best Sound Design of a Musical for Jonathan Deans. The band was honoured with a Special Tony Award, and the Original Broadway Cast Recording won the 2026 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.
The book is by Marco Ramirez and the production is directed by Saheem Ali, with creative consultation from David Yazbek and music supervision by Dean Sharenow.
Lead producer Orin Wolf said: "I am deeply grateful for the time we've had on Broadway - and the speed with which the team has created three more productions."
Casting, venue and booking details for London are still to be announced. Our Buena Vista Social Club page will carry them as soon as they are released.
