Extra performances have been added to Affluenza at Riverside Studios before the first preview has been played, and the run now reaches 28 November 2026. New rehearsal images of Noah Schnapp and the company have been released alongside the news.
Riverside Studios has put extra dates on sale for Affluenza, the world premiere that opens its Mainstage Season 26/27, and it has done so before a single preview has been played. Box-office demand has pushed the limited engagement, which previews from Saturday, 26 September, on to a new closing date of 28 November 2026.
Written and directed by Andy Sandberg, Affluenza stars Noah Schnapp (Stranger Things) in his stage debut, with Janette Manrara (Strictly Come Dancing), Rupert Young (Bridgerton; Dear Evan Hansen), Juliet Cowan (Broken Glass, Young Vic), Wallis Currie-Wood (CBS TV’s Madam Secretary, and Elektra in the West End) and Donald Sage Mackay (Indian Ink at Hampstead Theatre; Girl From the North Country in the West End).
“We are delighted by the enthusiasm for Affluenza, and adding extra performances before we even begin previews is incredibly exciting,” said Sandberg. “I’m honoured to be working with an extraordinary cast and team on the show, and we can’t wait for audiences to see it.”
A fresh set of rehearsal photographs, by Justine Matthew, has been released with the announcement, and it catches the company at close quarters — a costume being tried against the light, a scene being argued out across an armchair, Sandberg working the room. We ran the first rehearsal images from the production earlier this month, when Donald Sage Mackay completed the cast.
The production runs at Riverside Studios Monday to Saturday at 7.30pm, with Thursday and Saturday matinees at 2.30pm. The extra performances are on 4 October at 7.30pm and 3 November at 2.30pm; there is no performance on 1 October at 7.30pm or 7 November at 2.30pm, and a captioned performance is scheduled for 14 November at 2.30pm. Press night is Monday 5 October at 7pm, and tickets are priced from £25, with concessions available.
The creative team has Charlie Corcoran as set designer and Hannah Schmidt as costume designer and associate set designer, with lighting by Jack Weir, sound by Emily Drohan and original music by Will Van Dyke. Nicholas Hockaday is casting director, Cecilie Fray associate director and Florence Carr-Jones assistant director, with additional material by Scott Elmegreen. DEM Productions is general manager, and Jack Boissieux and Dan Steward for JBPM are production managers.
Mainstage Season 26/27 is a run of five new plays, each directed by Sandberg, who is artistic director of the Hermitage Artist Retreat in the United States and serves as season artistic director here. Three world premieres open it. Affluenza is followed by Sacrilegious, by Tom Schulman, the Oscar-winning writer of the films Dead Poets Society and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, running from 5 December 2026 to 23 January 2027 with a press night on 15 December. Expecting, by Scott Elmegreen and Drew Fornarola, follows from 30 January to 27 March 2027, with a press night on 9 February. Further productions and casting are to be announced. The season is presented by ABS Productions, Whitney Edwards, Flora Major, Judith Manocherian, Sondra Biller, Drew & Dane & Whitney, and Berman-Cohen Productions.
The play takes its title from the defence that gave it its subject. A teenager’s drunken drive ends in catastrophe, and the case turns on whether a young man can be too rich to have learned the difference between right and wrong. Set among the very wealthy of the Hamptons and drawn from real events, it asks what privilege costs and who ends up paying for it — a question the production promises to pursue with a good deal of dark comedy.
