Based on the beautiful story by Michael Morpurgo and adapted inventively by Nick Stafford, the National Theatre's legendary production of War Horse is back on tour. Billed as a moving, imaginative and powerful drama, the magical story is enhanced by unique music and songs, but the real stars of the show are the puppets. The life-size horses will capture your heart and mind, crafted with love and skill by the Handspring Puppet Company, totally convincing as they charge and gallop around rural Devon, then onwards to the hellish trenches of WW1 France.

Expect a genuine theatrical tour de force as well as a highly emotional experience as the show brings the horrors of World War One to life. No wonder this is the National Theatre’s most successful play. The story goes like this: Albert adores his horse Joey, and the feeling is mutual. When Joey is sold to the cavalry and sent to war in France, Albert enlists even though he's too young to fight, embarking on a lethal journey to find Joey and bring him home.

The design is by Rae Smith with additional music by Adrian Sutton. Puppet design and fabrication is by Adrian Kohler for Handspring Puppet Company. The lighting design is by Rob Casey, movement and horse choreography by Toby Sedgwick and puppet direction by Matthew Forbes. Animation and projection design is by Nicol Scott for 59 Productions. John Tams is the songmaker and sound design is by Christopher Shutt, with casting by Jill Green CDG. This is a co-production with Michael Harrison, Fiery Angel, and Playing Field.
