Witness for the Prosecution has extended at London County Hall until September 2027, taking Agatha Christie’s courtroom thriller into a tenth year, and a sixteenth cast has been announced to see it there.
Witness for the Prosecution is staying put. Agatha Christie’s courtroom thriller has extended at London County Hall until Sunday 19 September 2027, which carries it into a tenth year in the chamber where it has played since 2017. Tickets for the new booking period are on sale now.
A sixteenth cast takes over from 22 September 2026. Matthew McGivern (Hollyoaks) makes his West End debut as the accused, Leonard Vole, and Sophie Craig (Emmerdale) hers as Romaine Vole. Jo Stone-Fewings returns as Sir Wilfrid Robarts QC and Crispin Redman returns as Mr Mayhew, with Jude Owusu as Mr Myers QC and David Shaw-Parker as Mr Justice Wainwright.
The company is completed by Sahar Awad, Philip Battley, William Baylis, Siobhan Bevan, Garon Akbar Clark, Michael Cusick, Anthony Ofoegdu, Sean Paul Jenkinson, Io Munro, Caroline Partridge, Tom Richardson and Tristan Rivelle.
Sixteen casts in, and still selling out
The production’s trick is its address. Lucy Bailey directs it inside London County Hall itself, so the audience sits in the debating chamber while the case against Vole is argued around them - the building doing the work a set usually has to. It was nominated for Best Revival at both the Olivier and WhatsOnStage Awards in 2018, and the producers say almost every performance now sells out.
The production is designed by William Dudley, with lighting by Chris Davey, sound design by Mic Pool and casting by Ben Armstrong. It is produced by Eleanor Lloyd Productions and Rebecca Stafford Productions.
There is a second Christie date for the diary: from 30 October 2026 the British Library stages Agatha Christie: A World of Mystery, a major exhibition marking fifty years since her death, which includes items from this production.
Performances run Tuesday to Saturday at 7.30pm, with matinees on Thursday and Saturday at 2.30pm and Sunday at 3pm. Tickets start at £17.
