The Snowman takes flight in first production photos from Birmingham Rep

The Snowman greets The Boy at his front door in Birmingham Rep’s new The Snowman. Photo by Johan Persson Birmingham Rep has released the first production photographs of its brand-new The Snowman, taken by Johan Persson now that performances are under way. Press night is Thursday 29 October 2026.

The new The Snowman began performances at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre this week. The Birmingham run is short and ends on Sunday 1 November. The production then moves to the Peacock Theatre, Sadler’s Wells’ West End home, from Saturday 21 November 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027.

Earlier this month the Rep shared pictures from the rehearsal room. These are the first from the stage itself, in full costume and on the finished set. The house opens up into a lamplit kitchen, and a projected winter landscape carries the flight to Walking in the Air.

Olivier Award winner Will Tuckett directs and choreographs. Four boys share the role of The Boy: Felix, Jake, Tristan and Tate. The twelve-strong dance ensemble is Teague Applegate, Andrew Ashton, Serafina Sofia Barbieri, Ross Black, Natasha Chu, Eleanor Copping, Kynda Ng, Alice O’Brien, Andrii Osadchyi, Suzy Osadchyi, Ben Randall and Aaron Smyth.

The Snowman himself wears a new costume by Tahra Zafar, who won an Olivier Award for her Paddington Bear in Paddington The Musical. Anna Fleischle designs the production, with video by Nina Dunn for PixelLux, illusions by Chris Fisher and puppets by Daisy Beattie. Lighting is by Matt Daw and sound by Kelsh Buckman-Drage.

This staging takes over from the version that opened at the Rep in 1993 and became the theatre’s longest-running show. The music and libretto are by Howard Blake, after the wordless picture book by Raymond Briggs.

Booking is open for both runs: The Snowman plays the Birmingham Repertory Theatre until Sunday 1 November 2026 and the Peacock Theatre from 21 November 2026 to 3 January 2027.
