The Snowman description
Inspired by the lovely Raymond Briggs' best-selling children's book and the animated film of the same name, this is a timeless feel-good story. Music and lyrics are by Howard Blake, including Walking in the Air, the classic festive song made famous by Aled Jones. The design comes from Ruari Murchison and the splendid lighting from Tim Mitchell.
Everyone knows the story. But just in case you don't, it follows the little boy James and his magical friend the Snowman, who comes alive at night and takes James on a very special adventure to the North Pole, including a visit to Father Christmas and an exciting escape from wicked Jack Frost. The story has captivated generations of kids and their parents, and remains the perfect Christmas treat for all the family.
As Time Out says, it's a “Christmas tradition, it wins new fans every year”. The show has been on stage every Christmas for 19 years, thanks to the excellent Birmingham Repertory Theatre who created this hugely popular live stage adaptation. It's crammed with charm, perfect for little children upwards and popular with people of every age. If you only see one festive theatre event this year, make it The Snowman.
You will watch spellbound as The Snowman and James fly high above you. You will adore Father Christmas' party, the Snowman's friendly mates, the comical penguins and the show's winning blend of dance, stagecraft and live orchestral music, a great theatrical introduction for any child and a treat for parents too.
PS. We're also delighted to welcome Peppa Pig's Surprise and The Gruffalo to the West End for Xmas... more treats for the little ones!
