The Law of Mayhem, Tabby Lamb's play about Roberta Cowell and Michael Dillon, runs at Wilton's Music Hall from Tuesday 20 to Saturday 24 April 2027.
Two real people, one meeting. In 1949 Roberta Cowell, racing driver, RAF pilot and society "It" girl, met Michael Dillon, a ship's doctor who would follow Buddhism into the high Himalayas. Together they changed the course of British transgender history. Three years later, they never spoke again.
Lamb's play gives them one last, impossible encounter across time and space, to find out whether what brought them together is also what broke them apart. It is the first time their story has been put on stage.
The award-winning Basingstoke company Proteus produces, and circus is the physical language of the piece: the production photographs below show the aerial hoop hanging over much of the action.
Evening performances are at 7pm from Tuesday 20 April, with 2pm matinees on Thursday 22 and Saturday 24 April 2027. The running time is 1 hour 50 minutes, including an interval. Full-price tickets cost £15.50 to £30, concessions £13 to £27.50, and the play is booking now at Wilton's Music Hall.
The run closes out a busy April in Wilton's spring 2027 season.
