Key art design by Bob King Creative Nanny McPhee The Musical will have its world premiere at the Aldwych Theatre in November 2027. Tickets go on general sale on Wednesday 14 October at 12pm.

The West End home and opening month of Nanny McPhee The Musical are now confirmed. The stage adaptation of the 2005 film opens at the Aldwych Theatre in November 2027.

Emma Thompson, who wrote the film and played its title role, has written the book. The music is by Gary Clark, and the two share the lyrics. Katy Rudd directs. Rob Howell designs the set and costumes and Ellen Kane choreographs; both worked on Matilda the Musical, and Kane also choreographed Paddington The Musical.

The wider creative team is made up of Simon Hale (orchestrations), Nigel Lilley (music supervision), Howard Hudson (lighting), Ian Dickinson for Autograph (sound), Chris Fisher (illusions), Samuel Wyer (puppetry) and Andrzej Goulding (projections). Hale and Lilley are also responsible for the music arrangements. Casting is by Natalie Gallacher CDG for Pippa Aillon and Natalie Gallacher Casting. No cast has been announced.

In the story, Nanny McPhee turns up at the Brown family home, where the children have already seen off every nanny sent to them. Their father is at his wits’ end, the donkey is out of control and the baby is a force of its own. With her knobbly stick, some very unusual methods and a good deal of magic, she sets about restoring order, and the children are not the only ones in the family with something to learn.

Universal Theatrical Group and Working Title Films present the musical, in association with Studiocanal on Stage and MGM on Stage. It is produced for Working Title Films by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Lindsay Doran, Emma Thompson, Paul Warwick Griffin, Gareth Hewitt Williams and Rebecca Quigley.

Nederlander Theatres, which runs the Aldwych, gives the running time as approximately two hours 30 minutes including an interval. The show is recommended for ages 6 and up, and children under 5 will not be admitted. A captioned performance is scheduled for 9 March 2028, a BSL-interpreted performance for 15 March 2028 and an audio-described performance for 24 March 2028.

The confirmation settles the venue question raised in our August report on the musical, and our look at the West End’s magical nannies has more on the background to the show.

A presale for those who registered on the show’s website is under way now. General booking for Nanny McPhee The Musical opens on Wednesday 14 October at 12pm, with tickets from £30 and performances on sale until 9 September 2028.
