A new video gives a first listen to Great Adventure from Kimberly Akimbo, sung by the European premiere cast at Hampstead Theatre a week before opening night.
Hampstead Theatre has released a video of the company singing Great Adventure, the closing number of Kimberly Akimbo, filmed at the sitzprobe — the first rehearsal where cast and band play the score together. It arrives a week before the production opens officially on 9 September.
Maria Friedman plays Kimberly Levaco, the sixteen-year-old whose rare genetic condition ages her four times faster than everyone around her. Friedman has four Olivier Awards and, on this occasion, the trick of playing a teenager without disguise. She is joined by Alice Fearn as Debra, Peter Hannah as Buddy Levaco, Gilli Jones as Seth Weetis and Niamh Perry as Pattie Levaco.
Completing the company are Sara Hajizadeh, Ronav Jain, Robin Simões da Silva and Aviva Tulley, with swings Rachel Flynn and Daniel Walford.
The musical has a book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire and music by Jeanine Tesori, and took five Tony Awards in 2023 including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book. This is its European premiere.
Michael Longhurst directs, with designs by Soutra Gilmour, musical supervision and direction by Nigel Lilley, choreography by Matt Cole, lighting by Jack Knowles, sound by Paul Groothuis and video by Luke Halls. Casting is by Anna Cooper.
Previews began on 29 August. Kimberly Akimbo runs at the Hampstead Theatre until Saturday 7 November 2026, with opening night on Wednesday 9 September.
