Hot Mess has put out a new track, One in a Trillion, written for its London run and sung by Morgan Gregory. The musical closes at The Other Palace on Sunday 6 September.
Hot Mess has released a new song from the show as its London run heads into its last week. One in a Trillion is out on Spotify now, and the production closes at The Other Palace on Sunday 6 September.
The track was written for this staging rather than lifted from the existing score, and is performed by Morgan Gregory, who plays Humanity. Music and lyrics are by Jack Godfrey, who also produced the single and co-orchestrated it with Joe Beighton. Sam Featherstone was recording and mixing engineer as well as a producer on the track, with Leo Aram-Downs on guitar and mastering by Ste Kerry.

"One in a Trillion" was newly created for this production at The Other Palace, and Morgan Gregory makes it a true showstopper with his incredible vocals. Releasing the track as a single feels like the perfect way to celebrate these final performances in London, and to give audiences another piece of the show to take away with them. This may be the end of this particular chapter, but there are lots of conversations happening about what comes next for Hot Mess - so watch this space!'
That last line is the one to note. The show has climbed steadily since it began: a sell-out premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe, then a transfer to Southwark Playhouse, and now this London run. Nothing further has been announced, and the producers have not said what the conversations involve.
Hot Mess is an original pop musical that stages the climate crisis as a romantic comedy, casting the Earth and Humanity as a couple whose love affair curdles. It comes from Jack Godfrey and Ellie Coote, the pair behind 42 Balloons, with Coote writing the book and directing.
Danielle Steers plays Earth, having led the show since Edinburgh; her other credits include Just for One Day, Six the Musical and Bat Out of Hell. Gregory's include Back to the Future in the original West End cast and Newsies at Troubadour Wembley Park. Mia Quimpo covers Earth and Nathan Shaw covers Humanity.
The production has music supervision and co-orchestrations by Joe Beighton, choreography by Alexzandra Sarmiento, set design by Shankho Chaudhuri, lighting by Ryan Joseph Stafford, sound design and audio production by Paul Gatehouse, costume design by Sarah Mercade and musical direction by Sara De Sanctis, with Deirdre O'Halloran as dramaturg and intimacy coordination by Lex Kaby. Casting is by Pearson Casting CDG.
Hot Mess is produced by Vicky Graham Productions, Birmingham Hippodrome, Aria Entertainment, Pascal Ultee Productions, Broadway Asia International, TRW Production and Willette Klausner, with RJG Productions as general managers. It runs at The Other Palace until Sunday 6 September, and One in a Trillion is streaming now.
