Colour & Light, a candlelit concert of songs by Stephen Sondheim, comes to St James's Piccadilly for one night on Saturday 21 November 2026, five years after the composer's death.
Colour & Light runs for a single performance at St James's Piccadilly on Saturday 21 November 2026. Doors open at 7pm and the concert starts at 7.30pm, with a scheduled finish of 9.50pm. Tickets have been on sale since 7 October. Seating is unreserved, so an early arrival buys a better view.
The evening comes from LIVEWIRE Productions, working in association with The Stephen Sondheim Society. It marks five years since Sondheim died in November 2021. The programme gathers his music and lyrics in new arrangements for voice, piano, strings and woodwind, played in the candlelit church on Piccadilly.
The producers are billing a line-up of Olivier Award winners and nominees from the West End. They share the stage with a company of young performers near the start of their careers. LIVEWIRE calls it the biggest concert it has mounted so far.
The title shares its name with Colour and Light, the first-act number from Sunday in the Park with George in which the painter George works at his canvas.
It lands in a busy London season for the composer. Into the Woods is running at the Noël Coward Theatre, and Side by Side by Sondheim marks its 50th anniversary with a new production at Upstairs at the Gatehouse from 10 December.
