Four fairy tales cross paths in the woods, where every wish granted turns out to have a price.

A childless Baker and his Wife learn that the Witch next door has cursed their family line, and that the curse can be lifted only if they bring her four items before midnight in three days' time. Their search takes them into the woods, where they run into Cinderella fleeing the ball, Jack trading his cow for a handful of beans, Little Red Riding Hood on her way to grandmother's house, and Rapunzel locked in her tower. Everyone gets what they wished for by the end of the first act. The second act deals with what happens next.

This staging of Into the Woods began at the Bridge Theatre and won the 2026 Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival, along with a further Olivier for its lighting design, before transferring to the Noel Coward Theatre. The score is among Sondheim's most performed, including Children Will Listen, No One Is Alone, Giants in the Sky and the duet Agony.

The music and lyrics are by Stephen Sondheim, whose other work includes Sweeney Todd, Company and A Little Night Music, with a book by James Lapine, who wrote and directed the original 1987 Broadway production. This revival is directed by Jordan Fein and designed by Tom Scutt.

Kate Fleetwood reprises the role of the Witch, for which she was nominated for an Olivier Award; her earlier work includes a Tony-nominated Lady Macbeth. John Dagleish, who won the Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical for Sunny Afternoon, plays the Baker, with Laura Pitt-Pulford as the Baker's Wife. The company also features Simbi Akande as Cinderella, Keith Ramsay as Jack, Gracie McGonigal as Little Red Riding Hood and Matthew Seadon-Young as Cinderella's Prince and the Wolf.
