If you're in the market for something a bit special, you can't go far wrong with The War Horse, now playing at the New London Theatre. It's beautifully set, the story is wonderful and the acting faultless.
At the outbreak of the first world war Joey, young Albert's beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and shipped to war in France. Fate takes Joey on an extraordinary odyssey, where he serves both the German and British armies before finding himself lost and alone in no-man's land.
The boy Albert can't forget Joey. He's too young to enlist but he's determined to find his horse. So he sets himself the almost-impossible mission of finding him and bringing him home.
This genuine epic is based on War Horse, the novel by ex Children's Laureate Michael Morpurg. Yes, it's a children's story. But the themes suit all ages and you'll love it whether you're ten or ninety.
How do they portray the horses? You'll be knocked for six by the magnificence of the realistic life-sized puppets, made by the internationally acclaimed Handspring Puppet Company. You can't help empathising with them, adding to the story's power.
It's a gripping, thrilling journey through history, portrayed beautifully by a sterling cast who create an absolutely delightful experience. Book now and lose yourself in world war one with War Horse!
