The first production photos of The Cherry Orchard have landed on its opening day, with Kristin Scott Thomas and Stephen Mangan leading the company at the Harold Pinter Theatre. There is news for younger theatregoers too: the whole front row of the Stalls now goes for £30 to anyone under 30.
The pictures came before the reviews. Johan Persson photographed Ian Rickson's staging of The Cherry Orchard ahead of its press night at the Harold Pinter Theatre this evening, Tuesday 13 October, and they give the first look at the production in full costume on its finished set, a few weeks after the rehearsal-room images.
The price is what under-30s will notice. From 20 October, every seat in the front row of the Stalls is held at £30 for anyone under 30, at every performance for the rest of the run. That comes to more than 1,700 tickets. Each booking is limited to two, the seats are sold only through ATG's own website and subject to availability, and photo ID may be asked for on the night.
Kristin Scott Thomas plays Lyubov Ranevskaya, back at her childhood home after years away to find the house and its orchard at risk, and Stephen Mangan plays Lopakhin. The rest of the company is Ruby Bentall as Sharlotta, Megan Cusack as Dunyasha, Karl Johnson as Firs, Anastasia Martin as Anya, Noof Ousellam as Yasha, Jeff Rawle as Pishchik, Jack Riddiford as Trofimov, Vinette Robinson as Varya, Shubham Saraf as Yepikhodov and Peter Wight as Gaev.
Music comes from a travelling band of three, Kathleen Cranham, Rachel Dawson and Fergus Murphy, who also understudy. Philip Bosworth, Alex Childs, Paul Easom and Miles Paloma make up the rest of the cover team.
Much of the team has worked together before. Conor McPherson, who wrote this new adaptation of Anton Chekhov's final play, has teamed up with Ian Rickson on The Weir in 1997 and on Uncle Vanya in 2020. Stephen Mangan was directed by Rickson in Pinter's The Birthday Party in 2018. Kristin Scott Thomas won the Olivier Award for Best Actress as Arkadina in Rickson's production of The Seagull, which played London and then Broadway.
The set is by Chloe Lamford and the costumes by Sussie Juhlin-Wallén, with lighting from Bruno Poet, sound from Tom Gibbons and music by Stephen Warbeck. Shelley Maxwell is movement director and Amy Ball CDG did the casting. Sonia Friedman Productions and Winkler & Smalberg are the producers.
Evening shows are Monday to Saturday at 7.30pm, with 2.30pm matinees on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Three Saturday matinees carry access support: audio description on 31 October, BSL interpretation on 7 November and captions on 14 November.
Tickets are on sale now for The Cherry Orchard, which began previews on Saturday 3 October 2026 and runs on Panton Street until Saturday 9 January 2027.
