The Cherry Orchard description
Kristin Scott Thomas stars in Anton Chekhov's classic play, The Cherry Orchard.
The Cherry Orchard is the last play written by Anton Chekhov. Widely viewed as a masterpiece, it's still one of the best-loved dramas in modern theatre. A sad, gripping and funny tragi-comedy, it tells the story of Lyubov Ranevskaya, who comes home to discover her family's posh estate – including the cherry orchard she adores – is being sold, diving deep into a lost 20th century world in the midst of change. Will Lyubov forge ahead into an uncertain future, or will she fail to escape her memories and remain stuck in the past?
The playwright is famed for his beautifully rich characters and impressive depth of emotion, making this a highly entertaining way to explore class, the power our memories hold over us, and the death of an old way of life. And the star of the show, Kristin Scott Thomas (Slow Horses, The English Patient) comes with equally impressive credentials. She's a BAFTA winner, Olivier winner and Academy Award nominee with a long and impressive career behind her in film, on stage and on TV.
This major new West End revival is directed by Ian Rickson (Jerusalem) and skilfully adapted by Conor McPherson (The Weir, Girl From the North Country). Rickson and Scott Thomas have collaborated before to give us little slices of theatre genius, including The Seagull, Electra, and Betrayal, so you can expect something special.
The producers are Sonia Friedman (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child). The creative team also includes Set Designer Chloe Lamford, Lighting Designer Bruno Poet, Movement Director Shelley Maxwell and Casting Director Amy Ball CDG.
On stage in the West End for a strictly limited season, you don't have long to discover this brilliant piece of theatre for yourself. Grab The Cherry Orchard tickets while you can.
