Taylor Mac brings two shows to London this winter: a one-night orchestral premiere at the Royal Festival Hall in November, and a week of Holiday Sauce at Soho Theatre Walthamstow in December.
Taylor Mac will play two London dates this winter. Holiday Sauce, the New York artist’s alternative festive show, runs at Soho Theatre Walthamstow from 17 to 23 December 2026, and before that Mac performs the UK orchestral premiere of A 24-Decade History of Popular Music with the Philharmonia Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall on Thursday 26 November at 7.30pm.
Holiday Sauce mixes music, burlesque and what the show calls random acts of fabulousness — an irreverent seasonal alternative rather than a carol concert, and Mac’s regular December fixture in New York.
A 24-Decade History of Popular Music is the work Mac is best known for: a performance concert that travels 240 years of American popular song, using it to look at how communities are made and unmade, with costumes and audience participation along the way. The full version famously runs 24 hours. This is its first UK outing with an orchestra.
Mac is a MacArthur fellow, a Pulitzer Prize finalist and a Tony nominee for Best Play, and won the International Ibsen Award. The plays include Hir and The Hang; a filmed version of A 24-Decade History, directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, streams on Sky Documentaries.
A 24-Decade History of Popular Music plays the Royal Festival Hall on Thursday 26 November 2026 at 7.30pm. Holiday Sauce runs at Soho Theatre Walthamstow, 186 Hoe Street, from Thursday 17 to Wednesday 23 December 2026.
