Speculations, Trevor Nunn's world premiere of Torben Betts's political thriller with Janie Dee, has added two weeks at the Marylebone Theatre and now runs until Sunday 17 January 2027. The new dates are on sale now.
Speculations has extended before its first preview. The Marylebone Theatre run was due to close on Sunday 3 January 2027 and will now play an extra fortnight. Booking for the added performances opened this morning, Monday 19 October.
That makes it an 11-week engagement. Previews begin on Friday 30 October 2026, press night is Wednesday 4 November 2026, and the running time is 2 hours 20 minutes, including an interval.
The producers, Wild Yak and the Marylebone Theatre, marked the news with a new set of black-and-white character portraits by Robert J Wilson, showing the six actors in role for the first time.
Torben Betts has set his new play in New York in 1965. Janie Dee, an Olivier winner for Comic Potential, plays the American journalist and television star Dorothy Kilgallen, who refuses to accept the official accounts of three deaths: Marilyn Monroe's, President John F. Kennedy's and that of his alleged assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald. Her digging leads from Hollywood to the White House and into the New Orleans underworld, and the threats it draws start to reach her own home.
Jolyon Coy plays Robert F. Kennedy, Natalie Dunne is Marilyn Monroe, Gloria Obianyo plays Flo Jackson, Joseph Potter is Lee Harvey Oswald and Ferdy Roberts plays the crime boss Carlos Marcello. Lee Newby designs, with lighting by Johanna Town and sound by Gregory Clarke.
Nunn has said the subject has followed him for decades: "For my entire professional career, I have been intrigued by contradictions concerning the assassination of President Kennedy and the death of Marilyn Monroe." Betts describes the play as his attempt "to give a voice back to a courageous woman I believe was silenced."
The full trailer, released last week, is below. There is more on the production in our guide to Speculations, and the company can be seen at work in the rehearsal images.

Speculations runs at the Marylebone Theatre, inside Rudolf Steiner House at 35 Park Road, until Sunday 17 January 2027.
