Joanna Bowman directs a new Romeo and Juliet at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, running from 6 July - 28 August 2027.
It is the main house's summer production and the last of three Shakespeare plays there next year, after Coriolanus with Damien Molony and Richard II with Elizabeth Debicki. Joanna Scotcher designs set and costumes. Casting is still to be announced.
The RSC frames the tragedy around speed and fragility: an instant attraction at a party the two should never have met at, a bond that feels unbreakable, and vows made in secret and in haste that send events racing out of the lovers' control.
Priority booking opens on Monday 5 October 2026 and public booking follows on Wednesday 21 October. The production was announced as part of the RSC's 2027 Stratford season.
