A stage version of Susanna Clarke's novel Piranesi will run at the Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon from 3 July - 21 August 2027.
Sami Ibrahim has adapted the award-winning book for the RSC and Ned Bennett directs. The company bills it as an immersive piece in which the audience is asked to act as detectives.
Piranesi lives in the House, a building of endless halls whose lowest floors are washed by tides. He walks it, maps it and records what he finds, yet understands it less the more he learns. Then messages begin to turn up, scratched on walls and pavements, and he starts to sense that something strange and dangerous is getting closer.
Georgia Lowe designs set and costumes, Jessica Hung Han Yun designs the lighting and Rebecca Latham is dramaturg. Casting has not been announced.
The production closes the Swan's 2027 programme. Priority booking opens on Monday 5 October 2026 and public booking on Wednesday 21 October. It is one of seven shows in the RSC's 2027 Stratford season.
