Production photographs have been released for Jerker at Waterloo East Theatre. The pictures are by Scott Michaels, who is also the production’s videographer and co-sound designer.
Robert Chesley’s play is a two-hander about two strangers who get to know each other through a series of late-night phone calls, each man unseen by the other. This is its 40th anniversary production and its first at Waterloo East Theatre, presented by Adam Roebuck, and it was announced earlier this month. The play carries a longer alternative title: The Helping Hand, A Pornographic Elegy with Redeeming Social Value and A Hymn to the Queer Men of San Francisco in Twenty Telephone Calls, Many of them Dirty.
James Lee plays Bert and Paul Dennison plays JR. Lee trained at The BRIT School and is making a professional stage debut here; screen work includes the short films SHEEP, The Last Hour and A Man I Know. Dennison trained at East 15 Acting School, spent three years in Osaka performing at Universal Studios Japan, has completed a third year in the revival of La Bohème at the Royal Opera House, and appeared as a member of the Brit Crew on the season premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.
Henry Adams directs and shares sound design with Scott Michaels. Alice Camarota is assistant director and intimacy director, Jonathan Simpson is lighting designer, Dylan Salinger is QLab programmer and Jack Firman is stage manager; set and costume are by Waterloo East Theatre. Adam Roebuck’s previous productions include Afterglow and the UK revival of F**king Men.
Jerker runs at Waterloo East Theatre on Brad Street, SE1, from 26 September to 18 October 2026. Press night is 29 September at 7.30pm.
