A basketball court washed in purple light, the company in their Wildcats whites and the front rows holding their phones up high: the press night pictures from Disney's High School Musical at the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre are out, and McFly's Tom Fletcher was in the house for bandmate Harry Judd.
The shots come from the gala performance on Tuesday 20 October, when Disney's High School Musical held its press night at the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre. Photographer Piers Allardyce covered the arrivals, the curtain call and the company once the show was over.
Fletcher came to support Harry Judd, his McFly bandmate, who plays Coach Bolton, and the two lined up together for a picture after the show. Les Dennis, Gaby Roslin, Candice Brown, Montanna Thompson and Kitty Scott Claus were also among the guests, as were the co-directors Joseph Houston and William Whelton and the choreographer Aaron Renfree.
The curtain call brought the principals forward in turn. KayCee Stroh, a familiar face from the original films, takes the bow as Ms Darbus. Tobias Turley and Leonor Correia are Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez, with Caitlin Tipping and Luke Bayer as the Evans twins, Sharpay and Ryan. Around them are Char Burnett (Taylor McKessie), Jordan Benjamin (Chad Danforth), Simeon Beckett (Zeke Baylor), Olivia O'Connor (Martha Cox), Yna Tresvalles (Kelsi Nielsen) and Curtis Patrick (Jack Scott).
The production arrives in the film's 20th anniversary year. David Simpatico wrote the book and Bryan Louiselle adapted, arranged and produced the music, and the score keeps the numbers the film made famous, Breaking Free, Stick to the Status Quo, Get'cha Head in the Game and We're All in This Together among them. Hope Mill Theatre and Chris Harper Productions produce, in association with Lowry.
The critics filed after the same performance, and our review roundup collects what they made of it.
Disney's High School Musical is booking at the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre until 3 January 2027.
