The first rehearsal images have been released for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, which opens at @sohoplace on 21 September. Gillian Anderson plays Martha and Billy Crudup plays George, and Marianne Elliott directs.
The run is short. It plays from 21 September until 19 December 2026, with press night on Wednesday 30 September at 7pm.
Marianne Elliott stages the play in the round, which is the decision the whole evening turns on. Albee wrote a marriage that an audience is trapped inside for three acts; @sohoplace puts that audience on all four sides of it, close enough to be implicated rather than merely watching.
Josh Dylan is Nick, the new professor, and Phoebe Horn is his wife Honey - the couple invited back for a drink at two in the morning who stay for the wreckage. The understudies are Alex Cartuson, Jessica Kirton, Georgia Miles and Simon Willmont.
Design is by Miriam Buether, with lighting by James Farncombe and sound by Ian Dickinson. Ingrid Mackinnon is movement and intimacy director, Charmian Hoare voice and dialect coach, and Sam Lyon-Behan fight director. Casting is by Jim Carnahan CSA and Liz Fraser CSA.
