Pitlochry Festival Theatre has released the first production images for I’ll Be Seeing You, the world premiere of a new play by Martin Sherman starring Simon Russell Beale and Fra Fee. The run ends on 11 October, with the press performance this Saturday.
Pitlochry Festival Theatre has released the first look at I’ll Be Seeing You, the world premiere of a new play by the American writer Martin Sherman, which opened at the Perthshire theatre on 22 September and runs until 11 October. The photographs are by Tiu Makkonen.
The production comes in Alan Cumming’s inaugural season as Artistic Director, and in the year Pitlochry marks its 75th anniversary — a milestone season that has been given over to a new play rather than to the safer revival such a year usually attracts. Cumming directs with the theatre’s Associate Director, Ben Occhipinti.
Simon Russell Beale plays Liberace. He and Fra Fee lead a company that also takes in Adam Kashmiry, Anne Lacey, Ali Watt and Greg Powrie. Sherman is in it too: the writer of Bent, Mrs Henderson Presents, The Boy from Oz and A Madhouse in Goa makes a stage acting debut in his own play.
The play is a fantasia, and it starts with a young writer stuck on a script about Liberace — a performer the writer has decided spent a lifetime in denial, screened from view by sequins and spectacle. Then Liberace turns up in person, and the argument stops being one-sided. Through music, memory and a good deal of charm, he puts the writer’s assumptions, and the audience’s, up for question.
Joining Cumming and Occhipinti on the creative team are designer Tim Hatley, lighting designer Grant Anderson, choreographer Chris Stuart Wilson and historical content consultant Jonathan Warren.
On Sunday 4 October the theatre is holding a post-show discussion with Cumming, Russell Beale, Fee and Sherman.
I’ll Be Seeing You runs at Pitlochry Festival Theatre until Sunday 11 October 2026, with the press performance on Saturday 26 September 2026 at 7.30pm and tickets from £15. The production is audio described on Thursday 8 October at 2pm and Saturday 10 October at 7.30pm, BSL-interpreted on Friday 9 October at 7.30pm, and played as a relaxed performance on Wednesday 7 October at 2pm.
