Emily Woof performs her one-woman show Revolver at Soho Theatre on Dean Street from 24 November to 5 December 2026, co-produced with Shared Experience in the company’s fiftieth anniversary year.
Emily Woof will perform her one-woman show Revolver at Soho Theatre on Dean Street from Tuesday 24 November to Saturday 5 December 2026, following a run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The production opens on 25 November and is a co-production with Shared Experience.
It is Woof’s first work at Soho Theatre since Blizzard, which she performed in 2023 at the Edinburgh Fringe and at Soho Theatre, and also at 59E59 in New York in a staging co-produced by Soho Theatre and Shared Experience. Shared Experience was founded in 1976 and is marking its fiftieth anniversary year.
Revolver takes its title from the Beatles album released in 1966, and draws together the lives of three women of different generations in a story of love, obsession and violence. In 2026 a television researcher lands the job she had wanted; in 1966 a teenage Beatles fan writes to John Lennon; and in New York Valerie Solanas tries to get her script produced by Andy Warhol.
The year itself is the fourth character. Woof writes and performs a 1966 in which Lennon declares the band more popular than Jesus, and in which a liberated swing gives way to drug-induced chaos as pacifism and radical feminism take hold.
Hamish McColl directs, with video design by Katie Hatt, lighting by David Willis, sound by Mark Fenton and movement direction by Siân Williams. McColl co-founded the company The Right Size, and wrote The Play What I Wrote, which won the Olivier Award for Best Comedy and was nominated for a Tony on Broadway, and Do You Come Here Often?, which won the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment. His screenwriting credits include Paddington, Johnny English Reborn, Mr. Bean’s Holiday, Dad’s Army and Artemis Fowl.
Woof is an author, actor and theatre-maker. She trained in physical theatre with Philippe Gaulier and Monika Pagneux in Paris and in trapeze and dance at Bristol FoolTime and London’s Circus Space, and her earlier stage work includes the award-winning Fringe pieces Sex II and Sex III and an earlier version of Revolver. She has appeared at the Donmar, the Royal Court, the South Bank Centre and Lyric Hammersmith, and on screen in The Full Monty, Oliver Twist, The Woodlanders and Velvet Goldmine. She has published three novels, most recently Ecstatic.
Before the London dates the production plays a preview at South Street Arts Centre in Reading on 18 November. Performances at Soho Theatre are at 7pm, with the press performance on 25 November. Tickets are £12-£31, the running time is 70 minutes and the show is recommended for ages 14 and over.
