Full cast revealed for Blithe Spirit starring Angela Lansbury at the Gielgud Theatre
The full casting for the much-anticipated production of Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit at the Gielgud Theatre has been announced. Angela Lansbury is due to play Madame Arcati and joining her will be Charles Edwards, Janie Dee, Jemima Rooper, Sandra Dickinson, Patsy Ferran and Simon Jones. British directing legend and Tony Award winner Michael Blackemore will helm the production after directing the Broadway version at the Shubert Theater that starred Rupert Everett and Angela Lansbury.
Lansbury commented that ‘Coward is the essence of a Britishness long gone and I feel in terrific shape for the London run, but I hope to God I can still fly around at the same rate!’
Jemima Rooper, who plays Elvira, has theatre credits including One Man, Two Guvnors, where she originated the role of Rachel Crabbe, All My Sons, The Power of Yes and Her Naked Skin. Television roles include Atlantis, Lost in Austen and Hex.
Sandra Dickinson, who plays Mrs Bradman, has stage credits including Singin' in the Rain, A Woman of No Importance and Not About Nightingales.
Simon Jones will reprise his role as Doctor George Bradman after he played alongside Angela Lansbury in the Broadway production. His other Broadway credits include The Real Thing, Benefactors and Getting Married.
Patsy Ferran, who plays Edith, is making her professional stage debut.
Noel Coward’s razor sharp comedy Blithe Spirit opens at the Gielgud Theatre from 18 March 2014 and runs to 7 June 2014.
