Boy Blue turn 25, and the company marks it with A Night With Boy Blue at the Barbican Theatre from Friday 19 to Sunday 21 February 2027 — students and professionals on the same stage, tickets from £22.
A stage packed end to end with dancers. Some of them are still at school, some have been touring for years, and for three nights in February they work the same floor. A Night With Boy Blue is at the Barbican Theatre from Friday 19 to Sunday 21 February 2027, and this time the company showcase doubles as a 25th-birthday party.
The format is a variety bill rather than a single narrative. Short pieces follow one another, some of them drilled and precise, some of them built around an argument the company wants to make. The score runs from hip-hop tracks to well-known favourites by way of Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante's own music.
Kenrick ‘H2O’ Sandy and Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante are credited as creators and directors. The company they built works to a three-word brief — “Educate, Enlighten, Entertain” — and putting the youngest students in front of a Barbican audience alongside the professionals is that sentence in practice. The Independent has described this show as Boy Blue at its “warmest and most inclusive”.
It runs 2 hours 20 minutes with a 20-minute interval, and the Barbican guides it at 5+ and bills it as family friendly. Expect loud music, flashing lights and haze. The Saturday evening performance, on 20 February at 7.15pm, is BSL-interpreted.
Boy Blue take over the Saturday daytime as well, with BB – Frontline Battle, a dance battle with guest judges and DJs running from noon to 5pm on 20 February 2027 — a separate ticket from the evening show.
Standard tickets start at £22, and Young Barbican tickets, for 16- to 29-year-olds, are £12. The show is produced by Boy Blue and presented by the Barbican, one of nine events in the Barbican's spring 2027 theatre and dance season.
